6 Elopement Mistakes You Don’t Want to Make
1. Elopement Mistake — Don’t Forget To Deal With the Legal Stuff
You might think this is obvious, but it’s definitely better to deal with this sooner rather than later! There are a few options you have to legalize your marriage when eloping. If you are eloping in another country I highly suggest to get legally married where you live and have your elopement day ceremony be symbolical. After all, it’s the vows that really matter and not what a piece of paper says!
If you’re eloping in a different State than where you live the process is definitely easier than getting married in a different country. You could go the same route of getting legally married where you live and have your elopement be symbolical, but if getting legally married on your elopement day matters to you then go for it! Every state has different marriage laws, so be sure to look them up and make sure it’s possible for you to do that. Certain States have a mail in options which make the process easier, but some you have to be there in person and then you have a waiting period to be able to use the marriage license.
So, in short, do your research!
2. The Biggest elopement mistake – Don’t Down Play Eloping
Elopements are incredibly special. They allow for more intimate moments, more adventure and allow you to get married exactly how you without having to worry about pleasing all the aunts, uncles and cousins. So, just because you’re eloping doesn’t mean you deserve any less than someone who is having a traditional wedding! If you think about it someone who has a traditional wedding typically won’t settle for less than eight hours of coverage on their wedding day. They want their full day documented so that they can look back on their wedding day and remember it like it was yesterday.
Why should elopements be any different? They shouldn’t! This is your wedding day. This is the day that the two of you will look back on and celebrate for the rest of your lives. You deserve to have a full experience on your elopement day. You deserve to be able to look back and remember your entire day like it was yesterday, because I believe your elopement matters. Elopements aren’t just about pretty pictures. They’re about the entire experience you have on arguably the most important day of your life! You deserve to have that experience.
