Is There a Best Time of Year for Your Breckenridge Elopement?
Colorado is definitely a great state to elope in, because it has what I like to call–four-season appeal! When you start to decide on a date for your Breckenridge Elopement it’s super important to keep in mind the season and the weather that goes along with them. Every season is truly beautiful! It just comes down to the type of weather and look you’re hoping to have for your Breckenridge Elopement!
Breckenridge Elopement in the Summer
If you’re looking for a day full of flowers in full bloom, the sun, and some awesome green foliage, a summer wedding in Breckenridge may be best for you. The views of the mountains in the background are sure to make the photos breathtaking. If you’re not looking to endure the extremely hot summer months, you could opt for a ‘cooler’ summer Breckenridge elopement in June or late August/early September!
Eloping in Breckenridge in the Fall
Fall colors always make for a beautiful background for images. Between the leaves changing and the breathtaking views, fall is a great time to elope in Breckenridge. You’ll be greeted with stunning colors of orange, yellow and red! If you want the peak season of fall where you’ll most likely get the most color then opt for a Breckenridge Elopement from mid-September to mid-October!
Breckenridge Elopement in the Winter
Two words on why Breckenridge makes the perfect winter elopement spot: Winter Wonderland. I can’t possibly think of a better place to elope in the winter because the snow as far as the eye can see makes for some truly amazing memories. Getting yourself a super cool winter shawl or jacket is a great way to add some uniqueness to your big day, or even stopping at a local coffee shop for a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate after your vows makes for some great elopement memories.
Eloping in Breckenridge in the Spring
Spring in Breckenridge may get a bit wet due to the snow melting. If you’re okay with that, then spring can still be a great time to elope there! One of the definite perks of waiting until spring is that the outdoor temperatures may be easier to handle. Depending on when you choose in the spring, flowers may even be starting to bloom!
Elopement Locations in Breckenridge
While there are many locations to elope in Breckenridge, below are a few options to check out:
Sapphire Point Elopement
Sapphire Point is one of the prettiest views in the area! Sapphire Point Overlook is the only area in the Dillon Ranger District where wedding ceremonies are allowed. In order to have your ceremony here, you have to reserve the area in which you’ll have use of the overlook for two hours. However, even though you have to reserve the area for your ceremony other visitors are still allowed to be in the overlook, but it’s totally worth the gorgeous view!
Elope at Jefferson Lake Trail
If you’re looking for a serene lake and mountain backdrop for your elopement, try Jefferson Lake Trail. This location is stunning for a spring, summer, or fall elopement. This 1.5-mile trail circling Jefferson Lake, and the best views can be found on the eastern shore of the lake.
Mount Guyot Trail Elopement
This trail provides some beautiful lake views and mountain views simultaneously, perfect for any season. This location is sure to take your breath away.
White River National Forest Elopements
If you’re looking for a perfect white mountain filled backdrop in the wintertime, White River is your place. If you’re looking for a location that smells like heaven and is filled with greenery and flowers in the summer, White River is also your place. This National Forest allows for any type of dreamy background you could imagine, regardless of the season.
How to Obtain Your Marriage License in Colorado For Your Breckenridge Elopement
Colorado makes it quite easy to get yourself a Marriage license!
The state does not require any witnesses and your officiant does not need to be present at the time of application. The state doesn’t require to see or verify any certification/ordination paperwork from your selected officiant either! You can fill out the application online before you head into the recording office, which will hopefully save you some time at the office. Both parties must be present at the time of the application with a valid photo ID. The cost is only $30.
The state also does not have any waiting period, which means you’ll walk out with your valid marriage license in hand the day you apply. Woohoo! The marriage license does have a 35-day expiration, so be sure not to get it too far before your nuptials. The Clerk & Recorders Office is not open on the weekends, so be sure that you can obtain your license on a weekday, prior to your event.
Once you’ve officially eloped (yay! Congrats!) you just need to record your license. You can do this by returning the completely filled out and signed marriage license to the Clerk & Recorder’s office. You can do this in person, or by mail. Colorado allows you 63 days to return the license to their office. They will then record the license, and return your original license to you. Make sure you keep the original license in a safe spot, it is irreplaceable if lost! Make sure to get a few certified copies of the license to use for name changes.
Also, if you are going to be getting married in a national or state park, remember that you’ll likely need some sort of permit! You wouldn’t want to plan the day just to find out you didn’t obtain a proper permit and be asked to leave the park on your wedding day! Make sure you look into permits in advance so you know how long it may take to get one. If you aren’t sure if a permit is required, you can always check with the park ranger of where you’re looking to elope.
