If you are a chocolate lover like me then Switzerland definitely needs to be on your list of places to visit. There’s something about the chocolate in Switzerland that has stood out from all the rest! The favors that you can try and all the different types of chocolate are endless. So, without further ado, here are 4 Incredible Chocolate Shops in Basel Switzerland!
4 Incredible Chocolate Shops in Basel Switzerland
1. Confiserie Schiesser
This shop is located on Marktplatz, right across from the city hall. This is one of the oldest chocolatiers and confectioneries in Basel and is in the 5th generation now. As for their chocolate bars, my favorite is Elvesia with cocoa from the Dominican Republic 74%, dark chocolate or Huimbi milk chocolate 42%. As for truffles, if you like anything with liquor, you must try the Kirschstängeli which is filled with cherry liquor and is to die for! Their dark pralines are also quite tasty. If you would like to get any bark chocolate, I suggest to get it there. Right next to it is a popular place called Läderach, but their bark chocolate is fairly sweet and they use palm oil for some of their chocolates, so I would suggest going to Schiesser instead!
2. Confiserie Brändli
Here you can get some super tasty chocolate almonds. They also have the biggest truffle and pralines selection as well! If you go here you must ask for the Peruvian 100% truffle. You better hope they have it that day because it is simply delicious! It’s a rich truffle made with 100% chocolate and no cream, just some sugar syrup to hold it together.
3. Confiserie Bachmann
I love to go here for the best Läckerli in my opinion! Läckerli is the local biscuit from Basel and is very similar to gingerbread. They also have the best chocolate bread here (Schoggiweggli)!
4. Xocolatl
This is a must if you are in Basel! They have the most amazing hot chocolate. One of my personal favorites is the one from Peru 75%. Some delicious Swiss brand you can find there are Rehmann and La Flor which are both very small bean-to-bar chocolate makers. This means they are in charge of the whole process and it’s a bit like “farm to table”. If you prefer something aromatized, their own brand offers a nice selection! For example, if you like cinnamon they have a milk chocolate with cinnamon, which is great! The girls who work there can also give you advice on all the brands if you are looking for something specific!
So, there you have it my fellow chocolatiers! I promise you you won’t regret making a stop here even if it’s just for some chocolate 🙂
