Grindelwald Elopement
I met Susanna and Scott at Firstbahn which is a gondola station that takes you up into the mountains. There are two or three stops before you reach First which gives you incredible views overlooking Grindelwald and the surrounding mountains. We got off at one of the stops to snag some pictures and then kept heading up to First! When you get off on First there is a walk all around the mountains, which can be seen in the picture above, and a point to where you can walk out with a glass bottom and feel the whole thing shake! It was honestly pretty scary and I’m not afraid of heights at all.
These two were an absolute dream to work with! As you scroll through these images you can just see their love for one another radiate as they let loose and had a blast. It was pretty dang cold too, but they were troopers and kept a smile on their face the entire time. I mean, how could you not when you are with the person you love the most in this world and surrounded by such beauty?!
I absolutely loved the story about how they met so I had Susanna tell the story for you to enjoy!

How did you two meet? Give me all the details!
“How did Scott and I meet? That’s a fairy tale actually and I still think every now and then that happened. It was in Finland in a city called Turku, my old hometown. Scott plays professional volleyball overseas, he’s from Chicago, and he signed a contract to a team in Turku.
I was working at a gym where his team worked out. The first day when Scott came to the gym I was working at the reception. He was asking to get a card to the gym and I tried to keep my professional attitude, get him the card and explain how everything worked, even though the only thing I could do was stare at him and his eyelashes. Yes, I’m still very jealous of those eyelashes.
After that I went to talk to my co-workers said,”If I was single I would definitely be hitting on the new player!” Little did I know that at the same time Scott said in the locker room to his coach, “Go and find out if that girl in the reception is single or not!”Obviously nothing happened since I was in a relationship, but we still talked basic “customer service talk” every time when Scott came to the gym.
A few months afterwards, my ex-boyfriend decided to continue his life alone and I of course was like any other person would be after being together for five and half years and having gone through a sudden breakup. After that two months I decided to download Tinder. After two days of having the app Scott’s face popped up on the screen! I swiped to the right faster than anything and “It’s a match” popped up! I sent the first message and since that day we spent all day messaging each other. After two days of messaging each other we finally met up and we stayed up til 6am just talking about our lives and everything in between. At one point I started thinking that this is a really nice guy and maybe I should friend zone him so I don’t screw it up.. and right as I was thinking that, Scott decided to kiss me. We spent a few weeks together and both of us knew that soon he had to leave to go back to America cause his volleyball season was almost done. Scott’s parents came to Finland and he said after only two weeks of knowing me, “I want you to meet my parents.” I was scared but said, “Okay, sure.”

During these few weeks we both avoided the question of “What are we?”. Then, we went to a restaurant for dinner with Scott’s parents and the waiter asked about the elephant in the room and said to Scott, “Is this your girlfriend?” We looked at each other and I was panicking about what he was going to say. After a couple of seconds of looking at each other Scott said, “Yeah, she is!” and pulled me closer to him.
After that everything went on like a movie and from that point we had one month together before he had to leave. We spent one hundred days apart, which sucked and I don’t recommend anybody to do that! I went to Chicago for six weeks during the summer and after that I packed everything, said bye to my job, family and friends and we moved to Switzerland for his career. It has been amazing traveling around Europe together while playing volleyball.
..and the rest is history!”
Any fun story about you two or any additional information you would like to add?
“We’ve had so many fun times, but this is definitely one of my favorite stories. One time my dad was visiting us in Switzerland and Scott and my Dad hadn’t gotten the chance to get to know each other too well yet. We were driving home and nobody was talking and the radio was on. Apparently in America it’s awkward to have silent moment which is totally normal for us, so Scott from the backseat started singing with the radio “Can I have your daughter for the rest of my life say yes, say yes cause I need to know” and at that moment I give Scott a look from the mirror, but he of course didn’t see and kept singing, “Why you got to be so rude, don’t you know I’m human too..” We got back home and in the evening when we were going to sleep I asked him what in the world he was doing and Scott didn’t even knew what he did and didn’t believe that that happened, because to him he was just singing with radio. It made us laugh!”
